This is — or purports to be — a collection of amusing headlines and stories culled from newspapers around the world. The stories on the even pages have funny misprints and unintentional ambiguities; those on the odd pages are simply bizarre. At first glance they seem to be authentic, and indeed many have the ring of truth; but I would be more convinced if more details were given as to the sources, which are often vague (e.g. "Notice in technical college", "Women's magazine"). Even when a newspaper such as the Daily Mirror is cited, there is no date given.

But the point, of course, is amusement, of which there is plenty. You can see some examples on the cover. Here are a couple of my favourites

Sir — Traffic over the Channel bridge from England to France should proceed on the right, so as to prepare the drivers for the conditions they will meet when they arrive in France. Conversely, traffic from France to England should proceed on the left.

A Los Angeles court yesterday heard why 63-year-old Mrs Isabel Hernandez committed a technical assault on a busload of people.

The bus terminal is right outside her home and the passengers keep throwing their used tickets on to her lawn. One day Mrs Hernandez happened to be hosing her lawn when the bus rolled up.

Something snapped. Mrs H. boarded the bus and hosed down all the passengers. The case goes on.
